Gorgeous bouquets of roses, mouth-watering candy hearts, romantic dinner reservations…and Fair Trade. There are so many ways that you can make Fair Trade a part of this special day, which is why Valentine’s Day holds a special place in our hearts at TransFair USA!

Let’s begin by sharing the love!

roses-nonmomOur Gifts of Fairness giving program allows you to give a gift that changes the world by changing the opportunities for farming families and the environment around the world in over 60 countries.

When you give these Gifts of Fairness and Fair Trade, your recipient will receive a beautiful, personalized eCard or you can print it out to wrap up as a present!

Onward to chocolate!

What’s Valentine’s Day without chocolate hearts?  Now you can make them Fair Trade Certified chocolate hearts with these heart-shaped bonbons of joy from Divine Chocolate. Order online or look for them at Whole Foods.

Looking for a more seductive gift for your sweetheart?  Check out Theo Chocolate’s Aphrodisiac Confection Collection.

Do you have a date to impress?  You might want to pick up Theo’s Chocolate and Wine Pairing Kit.  The kit comes with several varieties of Fair Trade Certified Theo chocolate and offers suggestions of pairing with red grape varietals, including Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.  Keep it Fair and pair the chocolate with Fair Trade wine.

Which leads us nicely into wine…

What better way to celebrate (for those of you over 21, that is) your love than by cracking open a bottle of wine that supports a mission?  Check out this Flickr album to learn where to buy the Fair Trade Certified wines that are now available in the United States. Here are a few suggestions:

Fairhills Bus Stop Red is full-bodied with aromas of berry fruit and chocolate and hints of plum.  Why is it called Bus Stop? Proceeds from the wine will be used to build a school bus system for the children of the over 800 farm employees and communities of San Martin, Lavalle and Medrano in Mendoza, Argentina.

Solombra Merlot is another Fair Trade wine with a touching story.  For each bottle of Solombra purchased, proceeds go back to the vineyard of La RioJana, enabling them to buy bricks for the community hospital that is being built between the villages of Chilecito and Tilimuqui in the Famatina Valley of Argentina.  Watch this video to learn more.

Really want to impress your date?  Try cupcakes!

As it turns out, many Fair Trade Certified products are also common cupcake ingredients (sugar, coffee, chocolate). And those that aren’t so common (roses, tea, bananas and honey) are potential components in exquisite recipes! Carefully selecting ingredients that are responsibly grown and traded ensures that each cupcake is Made with Love.

Sugar is a staple in almost every cupcake recipe.  So look for sugar from Wholesome Sweeteners or Alter Eco at your local store or order online.

And last, but not least, flowers!

Show the special person in your life how much you care buy giving Fair Trade Certified flowers.  The Fair Trade Certified label on your bouquet means that flower workers, most of whom are women, can put food on their tables, send their children to school, invest in community development, and use sustainable farming methods.  Watch this video to learn more.
