Day 21: Travelling the Fair Trade Way
I’m sure this has happened to you: you’re in a place that isn’t your home, away from your daily routine, in a not-too-familiar area. When you travel, you don’t have your normal coffee shop to stop in, the grocery store where you have each aisle memorized, or even that favorite diner where you’ve been eating lunch for the last decade and all of the servers know your order by heart (okay, maybe that’s not exactly you, but you get the point). To add to all of this upset of your normal schedule, you also have NO IDEA where to go to make sure that you’re buying all the Fair Trade Certified products that you love so much.
Fortunately, that last worry can be assuaged for you and you can actually get to enjoying your travel more so than if you had to fret over where to shop Fair Trade. Fair Trade products are sold in over 60 countries, so even if you step out of the United States, you can still easily find Fair Trade Certified products–you may even get to try some new brands or varieties.
All of this information is easily obtained by visiting one of two websites. For a Fair Trade buying guide in the United States, visit TransFair USA’s Where to Buy page. To learn where to buy Fair Trade Certified products outside of the United States, go to the FairTrade Labelling Organization website’s Fair Trade Organization country guide and click on the country you are traveling to. Then, look for a Where to Buy, or a Buy and Sell link.
Voila! You’re now ready to not only make conscientious purchases while you’re traveling, you’re also in a position to go on an adventure and see what is available with the Fair Trade Certified logo in other towns and countries! What a savvy traveler you are!
