Day 3: Fair Trade Certified Wine

South Africa 2008 238

Cheers! Fair Trade Certified wine is now available in stores across the country. Fair Trade certification is empowering vineyard workers and small farmers in South Africa, Argentina and Chile.  Have your tried Fair Trade Certified wine? Tell us about it in the comments section below.

Fair Trade Certified wine guarantees that grape growers and winery employees are paid fair wages and that the work environment prohibits child labor, forced overtime, and harassment. In addition, the grapes used for Fair Trade Certified wine are grown sustainably, which reduces harmful effects on the earth. To learn how Fair Trade Certified wine has helped to empower a community in South Africa, read Marie Malan’s story at the Fair Trade Month website!

  • It seems that from today’s Whole Foods store wine demo’s the Stellar Organics Pinotage (A hybrid vine from Pino Noir and Hermitage vines) is a clear winner. Stellar Organics Shiraz is a close second place. Are we in agreement here?
