Way 11: Make Your Town a Fair Trade Town
Find out more about how you can help start a Fair Trade Town in your community. The criteria include:
• Forming a steering committee that meets regularly
• Ensuring a range of Fair Trade products are available in local stores, cafes, and other venues
• Engaging local organizations, such as places of worship, schools, hospitals, and offices in serving Fair Trade products
• Working with your town or city council to pass a resolution supporting Fair Trade and the local campaign
• Attracting media attention and visible public support, including press and radio
Fair Trade Towns provides a way for people with similar visions, in the same community, to make a difference that they can see. It’s also a great way to meet like-minded people in your area, while feeling good about the changes you can make!
Find out more about Fair Trade Towns from their website, which includes a blog, and information about the eleven Fair Trade Towns that have already formed, as well as the campaigns they’re currently working on.
